A quick honeymoon trip with the remaining week off I had from work!
Ally and I were both completely exhausted from our whirlwind wedding week. It was an amazing wedding with a lot of family and love. We both needed a break though and I’m so happy we chose to do this trip to Portugal before I started work again. It gave us time to be around each other after a week of competing obligations. We spent a couple nights in Bairro Alto, then stayed in Sintra for a few, then back to the same spot in Lisbon. Both Airbnbs were amongst the nicest places I’ve ever stayed. I honestly didn’t want to leave them a lot of the time. With good wine being so cheap, it would have been easy to sit in one of the balconies and decompress for six days.
We did get out quite a bit though. Mainly to restaurants. We ate some of the best seafood I’ve ever had, and that is a large statement coming from Newfoundland. Ceviche, octopus and Bacalao (yes salt fish) were all incredible. Copious amounts of iberico ham were also eaten.
We did one day of hiking around the castles in Sintra to burn off calories, which was amazing. My personal favourite was Quinta de Regaleira which is known for the Instagram famous Initiation Well which was used in spooky romantic period tarot ceremonies. Also, shout out to Romaria de Baco, which was a delicious restaurant and such a good time.
A week is definitely not enough time to spend in such an amazing place. From first impressions, I could easily live in Lisbon for a year or two. Ally has been down to the Algarve coast, which I need to see, but neither of us has been up to Porto. Another visit to this country is definitely in order. Thank you for hosting our micro honeymoon Portugal ❤
